Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus Pictus)

The Golden Pheasant originates from central China. This breed is easy to keep and an extremely hardy bird. Hence why so many start out with this breed of ornamental pheasant.
The cock bird has a bright gold-feathered crest with a black barred orange cape. The hen is a dull brown with black markings. Hens normally lay end of March beginning of April in their first year. Incubation time is 22 - 23 days.

Yellow Golden Pheasant (Ghigi's Golden)

The Yellow Golden is a popular colour mutation of the golden pheasant. The obvious difference is the colour, with yellow replacing the red. The cock has retained the dark green mantle from the original form. The blue of the wings has been replaced with brown while the crest and ruff are the same as the normal golden. The tail is pale brown spotted with light yellow.

The hen is pale yellow all over with grey barring. This breed is easy to keep and a very hardy bird.

Hens normally lay end of March or the beginning of April in their first year. Incubation time is 22 - 23 days.

Lady Amherst’s Pheasant (Chrysolophus Amherstiae)

The Lady Amherst’s pheasant originates from central China South of the range of the Golden pheasant, it is a very beautiful and easy to keep breed.

The cock should have a dark green cap on their head which then leads to a bright scarlet crest, bright green and blue wings which blend into a whitish grey breast, and a beautiful long grey tail heavily barred with chestnut under coverts. The cock birds reach full maturity in their second year.

The hens are sometimes confused with Golden hens but they are bigger with blue/grey legs and orbital skin. Lady Amherst hens also have stronger markings in the barring of their tails compared to the Goldens.
Hens normally lay in April of their second year. Incubation time is 22 - 23 days.

Swinhoe’s Pheasant (Lophura Swinhoei)

This breed originates from Taiwan and is a hardy breed.

The cock has a white crest, mantle & central tail feathers with beautiful blue and green markings to the body & wings. The cock birds reach full maturity in their second year.

The hens are mostly brown, speckled with triangular yellow markings and they lack the crest of the cock bird.

Hens normally lay in March of their second year. Incubation time is 25 days.

True Silver Pheasant (Lophura Nycthemera Nycthemera)

The True Silver Pheasant originates from Southern China.

The cock has a black/blue crest, with blue/black underparts with black laced silver feathering. The cock birds reach full maturity in their second year.

The hen is brown with some black & white markings in the underpart of her tail. She also has a small brown crest with a black tip.

Hens normally lay in March of their second year. Incubation time is 25 days.

Temminck’s Tragopan (Tragopan Temmincki)

This breed originates from the Eastern Himalayas & Southern Tibet. This breed is fairly easy to keep and a hardy bird.

The cock bird is a beautiful brightly coloured bird, ranging from bright orange at the neck to a deep red body, with a covering of grey ocelli. Facial skin is bright blue with lappets and inflated skin horns visible when displaying.

This breed reaches full maturity in their second year.

The hen is a white-spotted brown bird with blue orbital skin. Hens normally lay in April of their second year. Incubation time is 28 days.

Hume’s Bar-tailed Pheasant (Syrmaticus Humiae Humiae)

This breed originates from India through to Thailand.

The cock bird has a long tail, which is barred with grey, brown and black, chestnut brown body and white wingbars.

The Hume's Bar-tailed Pheasant reaches full maturity in their first year.

The female is a small brown bird with black and white markings and a white tip to the tail. Hens normally lay in April of their first year. Incubation time is 27 – 28 days, normally the latter.

White Crested Kalij Pheasant (Lophura leucomelana)

Originally from Pakistan, through Northern India and into Bangladesh. This is one of nine subspecies of the Kalij pheasant. Of the subspecies this is the most common in captivity.|

The cock bird has a mostly dark blue/black body with a white crest and creamy coloured underparts and laced rump.

The hen is light brown in colour with a cream coloured lacing to the feathers.

This breed reaches full maturity in their first year.

Hens normally lay in April of their first year. Incubation time is 25 days.

Himalayan Monal Pheasant (Lophophorus Impeyanus)

This breed originates from the Himalayan mountain range.

The cock has magnificent metallic colours throughout including; blues, greens and bronze and a solid brown tail. When displaying the cocks show their amazing white rump.

The hen is a rich brown with creamy streaking to the body and a beautiful blue facial skin.

Full maturity is reached in their second year.

Hens normally lay in April of their second year. Incubation time is 28 days.

Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon Mantchuricum)

This breed originates from the mountain forests of North China they are very hardy and friendly birds to keep.

The Brown Eared Pheasant has a glossy brown body, with a black crown, white ear tufts and tail feathers. They have reddish legs and bright red wattles.

This breed is hard to sex as they are almost identical except the hen is slightly smaller in size and lacks any signs of spurs.

Hens normally lay in April but these are very rarely fertile until the second year. Incubation time is 26 days.

This bird originates from the Himalayan range and through to Pakistan, India & Nepal.

The body is a dusky grey brown with black barring on the feathers. They have a long buff brown and strongly barred tail and short, pointed brown crest.

This breed originates from China.

The cock has a black and white head, and neck ring. The body has orange and white feathering laced with black . They can grow tails up to 60 inches with strong black barring.
